Brownsville Attractions - Palo Alto Battlefield

Brownsville is a relatively small city but still has quite a few notable attractions to see. You can go to the Gladys Porter Zoo, visit Boca Chica State Park or do a number of other activities. If you are a history buff there is one attraction you should make sure to visit. That attraction is the Palo Alto Battlefield. It is a must see for any fan of history. Keep reading and find out more.

The Palo Alto Battlefield is home to the first battle in the Mexican American War. The battle occurred on May 8, 1846 and was the beginning of the two year war. So you might be asking yourself, what is there to do at the battlefield? For starters when you arrive you need to check out the visitor center. At the visitor center you can see an orientation video and view a number of different exhibits which tell the story of the battle and the war. When you finish with the visitors center you can head over to the parks half mile trail which will take you up to a hill overlooking the battlefield. At the top you will find panels that tell you more about the battle. It will give you a good understanding of what it was like at the time. Hopefully you have decided to go for a visit while you are in Brownsville. Trust me you will not regret it.

If you would like to visit the battlefield you can find it located on FM 511 off of FM 1847 in Brownsville, Texas. The park is open from 8AM to 5PM all year round. Have fun.
